Wiring for oil pressure sending unit on 1993 LT1

I recently purchased my 1993 Z28 with the LT1 from someone who burned out 95% of the way through a rebuild project. I noticed the oil pressure gauge wasn't working and he told me he hit the sending unit while changing the plugs. The day after I got it home I had an oil leak coming from the block which I suspected was related to the sending unit. It was so I purchased a new one from Lordco and installed it only to discover that the wiring plug was different. The one that was on the car only had a single wire yet the new one required a 2 wire plug. I don't like driving without an oil pressure gauge but in all my searching I can't find any information or diagram that would tell me how or where I can solve this wiring issue.

You just need the correct sensor.

GM/ACDelco 19244511

The 93 sensor is on the side of the block, above the oil filter as opposed to late 94 and later that were behind the intake.

Thank you for your reply. I do know where the sensor is/goes and purchased a replacement sensor. The issue is the one that broke off and was hanging by a wire only had one wire going to it. The replacement sensor has a 2 wire plug. I'm trying to figure out where to, or how to, rectify the missing/extra wire issue. I believe from past experience an idiot light only requires one wire but a gauge usually uses two. in this case the replacement sensor requires it.

Get the correct 1-wire sensor. The single wire is the 12V source from the gauge, the block provides the ground. Sensor resistance varies with pressure.

Why attempt to cobble up the wrong sensor?

Okay. The problem, and not for the first time, is the parts guy who argued that it was the right part and the broken sensor must have been altered was wrong. I will use the part number you gave me to make sure I get the proper one wire sensor and have my much missed oil pressure gauge working again. Thank you again.

Re: Wiring for oil pressure sending unit on 1993 LT1

Just tried to get that ACDelco oil sending unit switch (#19244511) posted above but it seems here in Canada that part #is not available. I checked Rock Auto who sends parts up here and they only have the 2 wire switch. Any ideas or advice as to where I might be able to get it that sends parts to Canada?

Re: Wiring for oil pressure sending unit on 1993 LT1

I did a search on that part number from ACDelco and it's for a "Fuel Pressure Switch" If that was an oversight could someone locate the proper part number for the one wire oil pressure gauge sending unit for the 1993 LT1 (Camaro Z28) ?

Not an oversight..... it is the correct part #, and it serves both functions:

ACDelco 19244511 GM Original Equipment Fuel Pump Switch and Engine Oil Pressure Gauge Sensor
Amazon.com: ACDelco 19244511 GM Original Equipment Fuel Pump Switch and Engine Oil Pressure Gauge Sensor: Automotive Amazon.com: ACDelco 19244511 GM Original Equipment Fuel Pump Switch and Engine Oil Pressure Gauge Sensor: Automotive

I haven't seen Shoebox make mistakes when it comes to part #'s.

Wow. I can't believe how difficult it is to get parts or proper part research through my local Lordco. If it wasn't for the 30% discount I get I would go somewhere else. I apologize for wasting your time having to get this clear. I guess that's what we are here for, to help each other enjoy our cars and building them to our best. I'll just get it from Amazon and be happy when I can have my oil pressure gauge back. I've been Grandpa driving ever since I lost it and that's just no fun! Thanks again.

No need to apologize.

You can always verify the ACDelco numbers on their website (which is what I did prior to posting) to make sure the part number I had was still current.
