Rear question(is this normal)
Rear question(is this normal)
had my tires replaced the other day and when the guy was doing the alignment, He rotated the rear tires. By rotated I mean he spun them around checking the calibration of the machine. I was standing there watching this and as he rotated the driver side rear tire the passenger sided rotated at the same speed and everything like they were linked with a spool or something.
I thought that was a little strange and when he did the pas. side the same thing happened
In other cars I've had if you have the rear end off the ground and spin one side the other normally goes in the other direction?
What is normal all the cars I've had that have done this (rotated opposite directions) were limited slip cars, 2 mustangs, and another 95 formula I had with 3.42's. Could the rear be locked together? Or, is this normal?

if it spins it the opposite direction... launching would be intresting.
unless there is something different about it when its in air that i dont know about, i dont see why it would spin the other way...
then again- my best friends dad has always dont all the work on my rear so i'm not 100% sure about this...
i know that when i spin my driveshaft both go the same way...

If you spin the driveshaft they should spin the same way.....obviously that simulates what the engine does....
however, if you have it in gear and raised off the ground, when you spin one tire, it should spin the tire in the opposite direction. I believe since yours did not that could mean that your posi clutches are worn out.
Maybe some real experts will pop in here and give you some better info.

perhaps a expert could also explain why
Everything seems to be working fine. I just always feel like it is always running a posi. Around turns with any type of pressure on the gas pedal, I get the squeal that that comes from a spool on street tires, but if of the gas completely it will sometimes act as if it is unlocked.
only an open carrier (no posi, locker, spool) will allow the tires to spin in opposite directions with no load. Your car is normal. A car with a posi will spin both tires off the ground. That's the point of the posi. The clutch packs are creating friction to prevent differential action. Only if they are worn out (really badly) will the tires spin in opposite directions.
Don't worry, your rear end is fine (in the car).
