Rear main seal - Exact size? Ty!

Hey!

I'm in need of a Rear Main Seal fast, and I have no time to order one from across the ocean. I'll try to have a go at a universal one but the internet refuses to show me any size.

Could anyone please, if they know, tell me the exact size of the '96 LT1 Rear Main Seal? (inside diameter, outside diameter, thickness)

Thanks!

Why not just go to an auto parts store? Even a dealership if this is an emergency (otherwise don't cause they will charge a arm and a leg).

I live in Romania, eastern Europe. There are NO dealerships or authorized services for US Chevys... Ordering it would take 10 days and I have 5 until the clutch comes and 7 until a race event And spending 60$+ to get it fast enough just doesn't sound right...

You know that that seal is the same as all the other smallblock Chevy's going back to 1987? Not sure if that helps you atall, does give you a bigger list to search though.

Thumbs up

All measurements are in inches and were taken with a 6" dial caliper (supposely accurate to +/- .001"), on a used LT1 rear main seal and crankshaft sitting in my garage which were replaced/pulled after approximately 86,000 miles of service.

Rear Main Seal Dimensions: O.D. = 4.532" I.D. = 3.720" Thickness = .490"

Crankshaft Sealing Surface: O.D. = 3.742" (Measured where the seal I.D. rides, i.e. looks like there is still a .022" interference fit on this used seal).

Hope this info helps?

One of the fields in your "Profile" is "Location". Why don't you enter your "Romania" or "Eastern Europe" location, so it shows up under your screen name, on the left side of the post. That would help avoid questions like the above.

Yep that's about what I needed to know, thank you "97 6SPEED Z" !

Converted your measurements to "milimeters - mm" and going to ask for a 115mm od - 95mm id - 12.5mm thick seal. I'll prepare a big enough hammer to fit it

Making the changes now Injuneer

P.S. It has also crossed my mind there used to be a Cadillac/Corvette/Hummer dealer who stocked GM parts but last time I went by they moved/closed the place. Might try giving him a call tho...

do you have any regular auto parts places? Can you get an aftermarket one?

I can mail you one if you need, not sure how much shipping would be

We do have lots of "universal" parts places with huge stocks but they're mostly for european stuff. One of them said they have all sizes of seals and I should give them the size to find me one.

Thanks for the offer to help mdacton. I'm not sure if there is something that will arrive in 4-5 days and won't cost too much to be worth it. I tried to order one since thursday/friday but the guy from the shop I contacted forgot/didn't care enough to do it in time. USPS regular mail is 12$ and takes 6+days.

This seal isn't worth the trouble I'd be putting you through to find a shipping provider, send you money, get it from store, mail it etc etc. Thanks a lot for offering though

From their site (http://www.alpadrino.ro/simering_mix.htm) it seems they have these brands:

Musashi; MAP; NOK; Victor Renz.

None of them have detailed product# listings
