Rear Brakes

Is there anything available to upgrade our rear brakes? Is it even worth the time to upgrade the rear brakes?

I plan on doing the C5 front brake upgrade in the near future.

Thunder Racing has a kit for all 4 wheels. Powerslot rotors, upgraded calipers, hawk non dusting pads, steel braided brake lines, high performance fluid. All for like $530 bucks. It's nothing spectacular but definately better than stock. Also you can buy the parts seperately if you want to only do the rears, they're just a little more pricey. Baer sells kits also that are very very nice, but they come with a heck of a price tag as well.

i purchased fr and rr kits from www.aerospacecomponents.com. They look great, the weight savings are unbeleivable, and i think they stop relatively great. The only downside to the install was eliminating the e-brake, as they had no provision for it in their kits. But they do make a separate caliper now that they offer as an e-brake caliper. I have yet to get that part, but it is on my list. I can email you some pics if you'd like.

I just did the C5 conversion on my 95...it's just AWESOME. I was already running PFC pads on the rear, everything else was stock. My advice would be to do the fronts and take it from there...I think you'll find it's not necessary to do anything more.

well rear brakes really dont do the work of stopping unless you are driving backwards because o weight transfer they are there more for stabilization if there was nothing to slow the back wheels down the rear would try to catch tthe front under hard braking. ever drive a car and hard brake on a wet road with no back brkaes? not fun i dont think its worth it the PBR calipers are pretty damn good the way they straddle the rotor anyway just get good rotors and pads. why would you upgrade something that doesnt carry the workload upgrade the fronts

Yeah, don't waste your money on rear upgrades. I have the C5 brakes in the front with Z06 pads and stock brakes in the back with new rotors and pads and it is just about perfect.

If you need any more braking power in the rear just do it with the pads you use IMO. I would go with the PFC's from Autozone. Can't beat a lifetime-warranty on kickass pads!

I'm assuming you'll be using Bob Bishop's brackets (excellant stuff!)...do you already have them?

I don't have them yet, but I will be getting them when the next batch is done which should be around the first week of September.

Jacob, did you get the Z06 pads from Autozone or from the dealer?

I got them from the dealer, but they were about $100. If I had it to do all over again (or my next pads) will be the Performance Friction pads from Autozone for $55.

I had to get the Z06 pads to get the anti-rattle springs needed for the initial build-up since they don't come with aftermarket pads. Supposedly you can get the shims alone at NAPA.

Cool, I didn't realize he was doing another batch...that's why I asked. A few people have asked me about mine since, but I thought they were unavailable.

I'm not Jacob - but I got all my remaing parts including the ZO6 pads from Gale @ Team Chevrolet...everything is listed (part numbers and prices) in Bob's email and they stock the entire kit.

I love this thread already... This mod is going in my mods list..

Guys where can I find more info on the C5 brakes conversion and the Z06 pads...

anything on ZO6 calipers?? or are the same as the C5?

I have see the Baer ones but honestly unless I spend a ton of money with special stuff like zinc washing etc..etc.. they will look just like OEM only bigger.

thanks in advance.

The C5 and the Z06 calipers are identical with the exception of the Z06 calipers being red.

If you want more info, do a search about it in the Autocross forum.
