reading codes

how do you read codes on a 94 camaro. I know that in 3rd gens theres something with a paper clip sticking it into two holes and it gives you tht code. How would you do it on my car?

You can have it scanned through a dealer, or Autozone would do it for you for free.

You could also buy an AKM cable ( http://www.akmcables.com/ ) and use Freescan or Datamaster to scan it yourself.

1993 was the last year for shorting the ALDL pins. 94 and up requires a hardware or software scanner. You can download "freescan" for (surprise) "free". Just need a laptop and a cable.

If you plan on doing alot of your own work on the car then it will help you tremendously to invest in some scanning equipment.
I paid about 400 for mine but I got software that can do several different GM cars and any OBD2 cars.
I have lost track of how many times I have used my scan tool, they really come in handy.
If you can find an Autozone that does not have its collective heads up its *** then they will do it for free but be aware most of those monkeys can,t figure it out if thier little OBD2 scanner won,t work or they can,t jump the ALDL.
And they had to go to a class to learn this stuff. (yes I used to be one of the monkeys) I knew more about scanning cars than the people who went to the class.
