Angry radiator hoses and radiator cap ?

i just have my have a couple quick ?s in order for me not to have any radiator hoses to pop off again or my low coolant light to pop up while im driving i just want to ask.

1.After I get done driving, when i turn the car off are my radiator hoses supposed to be hard and stiff, and also when the car cools down the radiator hoses arent hard and stiff they are just firm i just replaced the upper and lower radiator hoses. but i just want to make sure that i dont have issues in the future.

2.How do i kno if my radiator cap needs to be replaced? i used to have a 16 psi that i bought new that had a red clip on top. but i went back to my old one that right now im using which is an 18,i heard that an 18 psi would be the best to maintain the right pressure. what symptoms would i be seeing if my cap is no good any help id appreciate it thankx

The cooling system operates at 18psi. When the coolant is hot, the system should be at or near full pressure, and the hoses should feel firm. When you shut the engine off, the coolant eventually begins to cool down. As it cools down, pressure in the system drops, eventually creating a vacuum. At that point, the hoses will not have any pressure in them, and my deform slightly inwards. They will not feel VERY firm, but if they are really soft at that point, they need to be replaced.

The cooling system uses the vacuum to pull coolant out of the reservoir, back into the radiator, to keep it full.

The 18 lb cap is standard.
