Race Header Q

Just had pacesetter lt put on about two weeks ago and had a couple of questions for the pro's. My mech said he just didn't plug in the egr since it was race version. Is there more to do or is that it? Seems like its running fine. Possibly a little less torque low but it screams after 3k rpm. Is this what I should be expecting without a tune or is this normal?

Slp CAI, pace lt, hooker catback for bolt ons. Car is 95z and I just did plugs, wires, o2's during header install. No SES light either.

Re: Race Header Q

Race headers do not have egr bungs. IIRC it ties into the intake somewhere to recirculate some exhaust. I don't think he did anything on the intake side and just left everything in place except on the headers. Do I need to block off the intake side, Dennis? Thanks for the quick response btw.

The egr hooks into the passenger side manifold or header vis a corrugated metal pipe. If there is no provision on the header for this connection, you need a block off plate to eliminate what becomes a vacuum leak. Both this connection and the EGR valve is located on the back of the intake manifold....

Re: Race Header Q

Thanks guys! Where should I look for something like that? I did all the other bolt ons besides the headers, should I be able to do this myself? Will this affect my performance until its fixed? TIA

You can easily do it....just hand tools needed. You can get the kit on eBay...

I wouldn't run the car with the egr pipe disconnected.....

Re: Race Header Q

You can also pull the vacuum line off the EGR solenoid and have the solenoid act as the plug. Or make your own plate out of some aluminum and basic tools.

Your car will eventually throw a code for EGR when you do some highway driving between 900-2200 RPM, the range the EGR normally functions. I tuned mine out using TunerPro and WinFlash. Took no time at all.
