quick qeustion bout oil pressure?

ok on a over night sit then starting the car cold the needle should be a bit past the half way mark, maybe 3/4th's correct? then after car has warmed up a good bit and idling it should be around 1/4th correct? then when driving nromal it should be over or right under the half way mark at aorund 1300-2200 rpms?

I've read here that normal oil pressure with a stock pump should be 10 psi per 1K rpm. I have a hi-flow pump, I average about 20 psi (gauge) per 1K rpm.

Thats about right...I'm at the same psi area when cold and warmed up.

You're fine on pressure.

I've never looked. I have an A4, the only time I hit 6K is when it shifts on WOT stumps, which isn't much. Too scared of Florida's drag racing laws. At 1K is 20Psi, 2K 40Psi, 3K 60Psi (this Psi's are close to, not exact). the only time it would be 4K+ I would be going over 90Mph. That's a rare interstate ride, but I'll look next time.

The type of oil you're running makes a noticeable difference.

Right... That's what it reads, that's what it does. Dont' believe me, don't care. I'm more concerned justifing myself to someone like Shoebox than to "who the hell are you"??

Re: quick qeustion bout oil pressure?

Each different pump has a max psi rating. So, about 10 psi per 1000 rpm for a stock pump is normal to a certain rpm when the pump is at max psi. Then, you won't get any more out of it. I think a stock pump won't produce more than 60 psi and the guage isn't the most accurate in the world.
