questions about lt4 knock module

my 97 z28 is still stock. i will be starting some bolt on mods soon. i have been advised by many on here to get the lt4 knock module. im guessing i just have a lt1 module right now. i really dont know what a module is to start with. can someone tell me what it is, its purpose, where its at on the car, and what upgrading to the lt4 would do for me?? thanks

Re: questions about lt4 knock module

The knock module filters the noise signals from the knock sensor, so that only "true" knock reaches the PCM. The LT4 module is designed to filter out the noise from the LT4's roller rockers, which would get through the LT1 module, and cause the PCM to retard timing, losing power.
