Question for those with mechanical oil pressure gauge

I ordered my gauge, and plan on putting it in the port above the oil filter pictured here (http://shbox.com/1/aux_oil_port.jpg). Will oil come out of this when I take the bolt out? Also, I think the gauge comes with 6 feet of tubing. Is this enough to get all the way inside my car and up to the pillar? It doesn't seem like it would be, but I could be wrong.

Re: Question for those with mechanical oil pressure gauge

Just change your oil when you do this so no oil will come out..Yes 6ft should be enough..

Re: Question for those with mechanical oil pressure gauge

There's no oil pressure in the system when the engine isn't running. Maybe a few residual "drops" may come out, but that's about it.

I used a braided S/S hose instead of the nylon tubing that comes with the gauge. Seems "safer". 6-ft should be fine, depending where you go through the firewall, and where you mount your gauge. I went through the hole where the clutch master cylinder used to be, and the gauge is in the center A/C vent.

Thanks for the replies. Did you order the braided lines, or did you pick them up at a local store?

Re: Question for those with mechanical oil pressure gauge

I used the upper port, but I agree with Fred. I dont trust the nylon tubing. I went with the copper line and used some convaluted tubing to insulate it from rubbing on anything. 6 foot will leave you with extra. One last word of advice, DO NOT kink the line if it is the copper. That is just a calipiary line, if you kink it you will cut off the flow and the line is useless. Make nice easy wide bends. No 90 degree tight turns BTW, good job picking the more accurate of guages. Mechanical is the way to go, regardless of what the car is doing, you oil pressure will read right. :thumbu:

Re: Question for those with mechanical oil pressure gauge

Thanks dreamer. I saw that they sell the copper tubing at Discount Advanced Autoparts. I might have to go pick that up. I got the mechanical gauges to find out if my instrument cluster readings are wrong because the needle doesn't move after the car warms up. Hopefully the gauge will read right and my oil pressure is actually not low. Thanks again.
