What kind of "progammer"? Do you mean something like the Hypertech Power Programmer? Not very useful for any kind of "tuning"... best you can do with it is load the Hypertech generic "power programming", and it isn't very good..... many people have measured a loss of HP with it. The progammer itself is useful for removing the top speed limiter, correcting for tire diameter or new rear gears, programming shifts in the automatics, changing the fan on/off temperatures.... but its not worth the $350 new price. If you could find one use for $100, and the person selling it has programmed his PCM back to stock, it would be useful

Then there are laptop based "programmers".... software that allows you to alter most of the important stuff in the PCM.... everything mentioned above, plus programming out diagnostics
(EGR, AIR), altering timing and fuel curves, etc. LT1_Edit and TunerCat are examples of these. If you are willing to take the time to learn how to use them, they are a lot better investment than the Hypertech, or similar.

Finally, there are several good sources for "mail order" custom programming.

Which one did you have in mind?
