question about afpr..help
Okay I have a afpr on there now, but I think it is leaking, when I took off the t.b. I could smell fuel pretty strongly, inside the top of the intake...took off the vacumn line from the afpr and could smell fuel... so I have a kirbin afpr on the way... I think I have an accel on there now.. question is would that cause my surging pretty much at all rpm's... and would that cause my 2-4 lb. fuel pressure drop at wot... I have a walbro 255 in the tank about 8 months old... I think it is okay... I already put on new coil, wires, plugs also.
getting dynotuned in two weeks... my mail order tune is not doing it... plus if the afpr isn't causing the surging then hopefully the tune is the problem...plus I did not gain any hp since h/c install... could it be a leaking afpr causing the surge/power loss...thanks...

Re: question about afpr..help
I'm sure it could cause both surging and loss of power. I'd be leary about running at WOT because if it is leaking, then that means it is not getting fuel it's supposed to (ie running lean). You should be able to feel if it leaking by touching it while the car is running. It shouldn't be wet at all. Put the stock one on to make sure. That way, if it's not the afpr, then you can send your new one back.

Re: question about afpr..help
well I don't have wet fuel.. just a fuel smell...I even had the car running and tapped on the afpr with a small hammer. could not get any wet fuel to come out of the vacumn end of the afpr... never can see any wet fuel just the smell.. I took it off and blew and sucked on the vacumn, I can hear the diaphram moving back and forth, but no fuel came out...

Your test port for you fuel pressure isn't leaking is it? I'd put the car on jack stands and start the car. Then, follow the lines all the way up from the tank and make sure they are staying dry. Have you checked for a leaky injector? That could cause surging, power loss, and a gas smell.
