Elite Wires Thumbs Down

Well i been chasin this skip ever since i put my hot cam in and before, i just thought the opti was bad. so i replaced it when i did the cam swap, well it still skipped after cam install. so lastnight i went out and sprayed the wires with a squirt bottle and it looked like the 4th of july they were leakin every wheres. Theses are the 10.5 elite ovc wires with the heat sheild with 208 miles.Im very disapointed, what a poor product. so my question is were can i fine a 10mm wire that will do a ovc to fit my wire looms?

well w/ the 10mm stuff you'll have a issue getting behind the a/c and powersteering.. don't elite use taylor's? your best bet is to keep them as far away w/ ample air gap between them and the headers... it's somthing we all deal with...

No, from what I gather they use some cheap material... not Taylor's. Everyone that has a miss issue with Elite wires that swaps them out with Taylors or something else cures their problem!

Why do you need 10mm wires anyways? There's plenty of big power cars that run 8mm's just fine.

well diff wires have more resistance per ft than other's.. So the best bet is to buy the biggest wire you can fit w/ the least resistance possible for the best performance..

Re: Elite Wires Thumbs Down

I think he wants 10mm wires because the elites are 9mm+ the heat shielding so they are close to 10mm, and he probably has 10mm looms or drilled them out like me to fit the elite wires.

Personally I havent had much luck with Taylor stuff either.

I like the accel 300+ stuff. You can find LT1 specific stuff on ebay for a reasonable price. It is 8mm wire.

Number 6 always gave me fit's w/ the taylor's.. Just because it was soo tight w/ the dipstick tube but i got smart and used a longer wire and ran it down and looped it back up and it was good to go after that... other than that the taylor's never really gave me a problem..

Re: Elite Wires Thumbs Down

wires are like cars. some people buy a ford focus and love it. some poeple buy it and its the worst thing ever. a lot of plug wire problems are installation faults. I'm guilty myself. tucking the wires too tightly, getting them too close to serpentine belts, etc. we all have done it before. the cleaner and less exposed you can keep your wires, the better off they will be. ideally, coil on plug would be the best thing to get rid of wires all together. unfortunately, we don't always have that technology on our stuff.

yep you guys nailed i would run 8mm but i bought the 9mm that with a heat sheild there over 10mm so i purchased the 10mm wire looms for 50 or 60 bucks. so im lookin for wires that will go ovc and that are 10mm, if not anyone wanna buy red ovc looms for 40 bucks.

I had the exact same problem with the Elite 9mm shielded wires, the spray bottle test definitely pinpointed the problem. My sparks were down near the opti which cause sever stumble and even caused the motor to die.

I put on MSD 8.5mm wires and it passed the spray test, it also passed the driving through at least 10" of water in an insane downpour test. Absolutely no misss or stumble.

The resistance of the MSD wires was in the 200 ohm range and the Elite's were in th 2000 ohm range so no wonder the spark was looking for the path of least resistance.
