Quest: 30mpg+ LT1 DD
I know you got plenty of money.
I wonder how that would be with a C5 Corvette Z51 gearset in the trans. First is 2.97:1 instead of 2.66, and second and third are correspondingly lower as well. 4th-6th are the same as in the Camaro.
I've always wondered how an Fbody would fair with that kind of gearing as well. That would be cool to see.
I just had my T56 rebuilt, and so it was an ideal time for me to look into switching gearsets. Unfortunately, the gears alone would have cost me an extra two grand, more than doubling the cost of the rebuild.
No thanks to the imported cars.
I'm doing my next experiment this evening. I removed about 60lbs of weight from the trunk. I wish I could make the trip with a half tank of gas to save even more weight, but then there would be no accurate way to measure my hwy mpg.
I think this improvement will me almost unnoticeable.

I didn't want to post the pic here, since it is sooo huge. It was a great little car. My dad bought it new in 1998, and I bought it off him in 2004. It was 100% maintainence free for 116k miles. I sold it just recently to another Marine in my squadron, who outranks me ALOT, and he tells me everyday how much he loves it.
I was just tired of maintaining 3 cars, and it was the least cool of my fleet, so it went bye-bye.

No results from my weight redux test last night. I had to outrun an F'ing tornado, so that kinda killed my MPG.
On sunday I think I want to try the wash/claybar/wax mod and see what that does.

Holy crap. I'm totally floored. Mission sucess!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did everything exactly the same as usual regarding my route and driving technique, but I combined the !weight mod and clean car mod. I washed the car, claybar'd it, and applied a coat of mothers carnauba wax. Two coats were used on the nose of the car, as well as rain-X on all windows. the car was literally "slick". Just for fun, I also took a dremel tool and cut open those little fake vents on the hood. I kept the covers though, so I can cover them back up when it rains. Ya know, since LT1's hate water. Tire pressure was 43psi front, and 44psi rear. I had a total of about 6lbs of cargo in the car.
I got a staggering 31.6MPG!!
Since it was a highway drive, without much acceleration, I'm sure the wax job played a bigger factor than the !weight did. THe car will be filthy by this friday again, so I'll do the !weight mod by itself for those interested in the results.
My goal was 30mpg, and I passed that without even installing any aftermarket parts. My new goal is 35mpg highway. In the beginning of may I'll add GTS light covers and see how they do. I've already ordered a set of middie headers, so I'll test those if I every get a chance to install them. Underdrive pulleys will be last.
