sort of why i made the move to using premium and a more aggressive tune.

I'm thinking LS1 because they're better at everything I'm sick of ****ing hearing about it.

........Just curious cause my LS1 has never gotten mpgs like that, and I'm usually pretty easy on it. Could be cause its a vert, and therefore heavier??????

Probably because its a vert with all the usual options which weigh alot. And then its an auto.

vs.

My low option formula thing with an m6.

My highest recorded so far was 29.7. that was back when I just had a CAI and !CAGS

LIke I mentioned before, I'm not doing anything to reduce power. No 87 octane tune, no iron duke, no LS1. I have an LS1, and I'm gonna see if my LT1 can best it.

I'm gonna do one more "control" run tommorrow, and then I'll start my little experiments on sunday. My first experiment is a clean waxed car vs. a dirty car.

It is all about little things here and there. Aerodynamics plays a huge role. Making that under the car cover mentioned a few posts back is a good idea. Also something like this front air damn http://www.dgmotorsports.com/dgm_pro...tID=50-11-1032 and clear head light covers will help. There is a article on a diesel 1 ton getting 30mpg, while only spending eight bucks. Check it out http://www.dieselpowermag.com/tech/g...ins/index.html

I finished up my baseline "control" runs for this experiment. I drove 3-5mph over the posted speed limit, just to keep them somewhat realistic.

I got 28.2mpg. There was a 15mph headwind for 150miles of the 210 mile trip. It was 85* and raining intermittenly. AIr conditioning was OFF, since it didn't work at the time. It was miserable, so I fixed it yesterday. All tires were at 33psi. I had approx 50lbs of Unnessesary junk in the trunk.

On my last control run I got 28.5mpg. I'd say that those two are good control runs. I still need to get a control run with the AC on though, now that it works. Then, I'll start the mods.

First mod will be tires set at 44psi.
Next will be a combination of aerodynamic mods. Wash/claybar/wax along with GTS headlight covers and fake airduct thingies on the hood removed.

After that I'll either do underdrive pulleys, or Headers with dual cats.

Horsepower TV show just dyno tested some spark plugs called "E3" and they appeared to improve gas mileage some.

if your car is a M6 and you have a 3.23 is there a possibility that the computer is not tuned for the rear end change and all his calculations are wrong?

Highly unlikely. I have 3.42s and everything is tuned correctly and I got 28 mpg on the way home from my gfs college.

I saw that. They were really mysterious about the plugs they were comparing against, much like when they compared Royal Purple oil against some other oil.

They also should have compared several different sets of plugs, instead of just one, against the magical E3.

I suspect that the other set of plugs were old and fouled.

It's all about the sponsors...

Well, for those that care, my first round of results is in.

I have been very careful to make this as scientific as possible. I drive the EXACT same speeds on every trip, I use the exact same gas pump at the same station to fill up, I only let the pump cut off once, I have very strict acceleration criteria. Shift at 2100rpm and never go past 20% throttle. I always have the car configured the same way. Same electrical load, NO AC, windows up, Similar weight in the trunk. This time I had 20lbs extra. I am also logging weather and wind for the trips. Any huge discrepancy will be noted.

My first mod was: insanely high tire pressure. I normally drive at 33psi in all my tires. For this trip, I used 44psi in all 4 tires. This is borderline unsafe, but the conditions were OK so I went for it. It was only 65* outside, and I was driving under 70mph for most of the trip. It was also calm wind with no rain and very, very little traffic. I had the road to myself in perfect weather. If I knew I would encounter any of the conditions above, I would not go above 39psi. Furthermore, I understand this will increase tire wear. Thats OK, I want new tires.

My two baselines were 28.2mpg and 28.5mpg. The tire pressure mod netted me...................29.4mpg!!!!

Are you monitoring this with software?

Are you planning on doing an 80mph mod?
