Exclamation Q about guideplate sqeal?

Alright. The new motor is in. This time I went Comp pro mags and comp guidplates and pushrods. My previous setup didn't have that, they were Self Aligning rockers. Anyway, I get kind of a high pitch squeal, very faint, almost like a belt squeal, but it sounds like its coming from under the valve cover and NOT the belt/tensioner/power steering pump. So, I was curious if the harmonics of the pushrod rubbing on guideplates would cause this slight noise I am hearing? The motor has about 170 miles on it now, so it has been running a bit. But today its hot, like 94 degrees in the twin cities, and I noticed that high pitch squeal. Anyone able to help me out? Ive never heard it before, it is connected with engine RPM, not vehicle speed that I am aware of.
Thanks!
Cody
(The new CSR water pump is keeping that motor cool too, hasn't gone over 175 degrees all day in the city or freeway. Gotta love new mods!)

I don't believe those guideplates are the ones you should be using. They don't quite line the pushrods up as well as the ones from GMMP or the Isky adjustables.

yeah I already know that now. I will be getting the isky ones and making a weekend of it to swap them. I wish I would have known that BEFORE the damn motor install though. Oh well. The squeek seems to be getting louder. I just put a new belt on, could that still squeek??

you know, I am starting to think that new belt must have gotten some coolant on it maybe. It comes and goes as it pleases...

yeah i know, too many. It would take days just to figure out if guideplates do infact squeal, or if I should look elsewhere for this squeal.

Even if it's not the guideplates making the noise you might want to change them out anyways. That's a nice combination of parts you have there and I'm sure you want it set up as close to perfect as possible. And good luck on your dyno day.

Yeah, I should get those isky ones comin in the mail anyways. And thanks for the dyno wish... Im pumped as hell! I can't wait to see what she throws down. Should I take off the belt while they dyno it so the motor isn't turning stupid stuff it doesn't need to be turning??

Re: Q about guideplate sqeal?

So whats better, guide plates with non-self aligning rockers or self-aligners without guide plates?

NSA with guideplates.

Those iskys are a sob to set up as well. I wouldnt run them unless you have too. How did the roller tips of your RRs line up on the valves?
