anybody chew up pushrods using gmpp guideplates,or any guideplates for that matter?

well here is my third attempt with these rockers and i now have gmpp guideplates. well because of past problems i have only done 1 cyl for now. and at first they seemed fine. the rod knock like noise i was getting the first two install attempts is now gone.(it was the pushrods slapping around) but now i am hearing them scrape. cyl 1 exhaust pushrod has a slight wear mark on it not too bad. the exhaust side push rod is getting dug into on both ends. all i gotta say is WTF?! I cant seem to win with these rockers. are those gmpp guideplates hardened or chromoly? i am using them with hardened pushrods and they are eating up the one. any ideas? I might just wait a while and order some harland 1.65s im about to say **** these 1.7s......

1.7's? Maybe you have a geometry problem because of the high ratio or the pushrods are not really hardened. Is it rubbing on the sides of the guideplates or on the bottom?

I think i would not have a geometry problem since sar2k used them on his car with no problems. plus the roller tip to valve stem tip contact is very good. well the first one it ate it was rubbing on the bottom but on the top side edge. the second pushrod had the same wear but not as bad but it is also rubbing somewhere in the lifter bore(this is after i loosened the guideplate to readjust it.

wouldnt i lose the lift the 1.7s create by getting shorter pushrods?

make sure you have plenty of clearance where the pushrods go through the head, a friend had a pair of heads that wiped out 2 cams before he figured that out, he just enlarged the holes with a 1/2" drill bit and no prblems since

well i went outside this morning to take a better look and i found the real problem. its the rockers. they person i bought them from lied. they are for big blocks not small blocks. how do i know well it seems the new rockers have the pushrod cup moved inward like and 1/8 of an inch compared to the stockers. makes perfect sense. so im going to see if the local speed shops have the harland sharps. if not the car wil be down for a few days while i order them.

right but i didnttink they would move it that much to get that lift ratio. i look at them while the valves are closed and see that the roller rockers pushrod is up againts the bottom of the guideplate and not going through the heade straight. the stock rocker pushrod is going through the head damn near straight. do you really think a shorter pushrod will solve this problem? and in my previous post to you. would changing the pushrod length change the effective lift of the rockers?

changing the pushrod length will not effect the ratio of the rockers

If you are using SA RR, no guide plate is needed or you will have pushrod damage. To check if your pushrods are the correct length for your application, take a pernamant market, mark it on the valve stem, install the rr as you would normally do, rotate the crank a few revolutions, take the rr and look at the mark. If the wear pattern is in the middle, then you have the correct pushrod length. If not, you will need a pushrod checker.
Perfect contact pattern
