Angry Hypertech chip and ROUGH idle at startup!!!

Hey Guys, I just got a 95 z28 and decided to buy a Hypertech chip for the 95lt1, and after I put it on I notice when I start the car acts like it has a MAJOR lope and wants to stall until I get her on the road for about 3 minutes....but its SUPER hard to get her rolling without stalling at first. I was wondering if I need to put the idle up now?! I just thought I was going to install it and be fine. Mods are:

Hypertech chip
edelbrock headers
high flow injectors (not sure specs)
k&n cone filter
underdrive pulley
comp cams air foil
gutted mass air flow
flowmaster cat back w/ 4 3" tips and 3" piping
high flow cat
6 speed with short shift
performance clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate

I would like to get the setup to work with the chip but if its this hard to get her "warm" (even after the car is warm from driving 1 hr earlier ) , I dont want to see how hard it will be in the winter. Thanks---

EDIT: I also just added that air foil the same day I added the computer chip and like a dummy I didnt start the car between mods to see if the first mod was running ok. I notice alot more "sucking" sound when I am in the car then I used to.....is that the chip opening the throttle body more for improved air flow OR is that the foil sucking in more air? I am going to make sure the intake peice from the maf to the tb is on tight (thought it was but will check the bottom when the motor isnt so hot, lol )

Re: Hypertech chip and ROUGH idle at startup!!!

are you sure you hve the airfoil in correctly? if the holes don't line up properly it could cause problems.

as could not having everything attached correctly.

the hypertech chip is probably robbing you of hp. they are designed for near stock cars. the more mods you do, the worse for you they become. return the chip.

i think madwolf at www.madz28.com tunes your year car for about $100 and it will run MUCH better, and almost guaranteed to make 10-15hp more.

Take the air foil off and see if the fixes it.....probably will. Throw the Hypercrap away and get a good tune from pcmforless or madwolf. I saw you changed injectors. Are they the same size as stockers? The PCM would need reprogramed to compensate for bigger injectors as well.

HOLY CRAP I JUST NOTICED I HAD A 96' and not a 95 and I bought the chip for the 95'....would that mess things up or should that not matter? They sell a chip for 94-95 and then a whole different chip for the 96' dammit!!!! I wonder why that is?! If I go with madz28 do I send in my computer?! This is my daily driver and I dont really want to have to do that---

Unhappy Put 95' hypertech chip in a 96' OH NO!!! HELP!!!

I was told I bought a 95 z28 from a buddy and didnt even second guess it until I was reading a receipt today and it said 96.....then I checked the title, OH CRAP....its a 96!!!! I already bought and installed a 95' hypertech chip and think I messed up. They make one for 94-95, then a whole DIFFERENT ONE for 96!!! I wonder why that is? Will it still work or should I take it off? If I take it off do you guys think Summit will give me a refund after I installed it?!?! THANKS- *wow I feel like a dummy*

Having the wrong year chip for your car will definately cause your car to run like crap. With Madwolf or PCMForLess, they can email you a program that you load can yourself if you have a laptop and a cable(or a long cable to hook to a desktop). Visit www.madz28.com or www.pcmforless.com.

Once I find a cheap laptop, I will be getting a tune from one of them.

How did you install a chip in a car that doesn't have a removable chip?

First of all I believe you should look at more than a receipt to tell you what year car you have. What's it say on the tag on the end of your driver's side door?

Re: Hypertech chip and ROUGH idle at startup!!!

The "chip" you speak of does not exist on a 94+ LT-1. You have to use a programmer to actually alter the parameters of the engine.
Programming a 95 car with a 96 prgrammer will change things due to it being OBD1 for the 95 and OBD2 for the 96, which houses a few different characteristics.

I'm not sure how you have a comp cam airfoil seeing as how they don't make them ???

Sounds like you have no clue as to whats going on. If this is the case, you need to find someone local to help you with your car before you destroy it.

Re: Hypertech chip and ROUGH idle at startup!!!

Maybe he's using the plug-in "power tuning module" that Hypertech sells.... even less useful than the "power programmer" (if that's possible)????? It plugs in between one of the harness connectors and the PCM. That would certainly screw up an OBD-II car if its for a 95.

This is basically a duplicate thread.

Merging.......

As a result, some things are going to look screwy and out of order, but there is no need for two threads with the same discussion.

Just when you think you've heard everything.....

Re: Hypertech chip and ROUGH idle at startup!!!

Nomad....they make a 94-95 Hypertech chip "module", look at this link:

www.summitracing.com part# HYP-350852

in the middle of the page it says "beginning year 94, ending with 95"

and here is a link to the COMP CAMS air foil:

www.summitracing.com part # CCA-VH041

so please dont make me feel any stupider than I already feel right about now, lol

Thanks Transamdude.....where do I get the special hook up peice from the computer to the laptop for the tune? Also....do you guys recommend any specific computer programs to get so I can see how everything is running?! Thanks--

Thats right, I have the MODULE that piggybacks on the pcm. Do you guys recommend I try a JET stage 2 or just try and do the madz28 download?

EDIT: I just took off the module and made it stock pcm again.....started ROUGH like before but after about 10 seconds on the throttle it regained idle without dying and totally lost the "sucking" sound from the Throttle body I was hearing----

I think it was the chip vs. module terminology that threw everyone off.

IMO, ditch the add on stuff and get a custom tune from a place like http://madz28.com/.
