Put 95' hypertech chip in a 96' OH NO!!! HELP!!!
Re: Put 95' hypertech chip in a 96' OH NO!!! HELP!!!
First of all, if it is not a 96 then it can have a chip. If it is not a 96 then if you installed the chip right, you should be good to go. If you want your PCM tuned, forget about hooking anything up and just send your pcm into a tuner on this site. From all indications, I'd advise that you refrain from dabbling in DIY tuning at this time. JMHO
Re: Hypertech chip and ROUGH idle at startup!!!
You do NOT want a tuning "module"... they are useless. Doesn't matter what brand. A "programmer" is more useful for gear changes, rev limiter adjustment, etc, but the "canned" performance programs they install are also very weak.
Either have a "mail order" tune done on yout PCM by one of the recommended tuners, or get tuning software and learn how to do it yourself... a bit more expensive for OBD-II and might prove to be a bit of a challenge. You get a guaranteed 15HP from the mail-order guys on a stock engine.
What are your "high flow injectors"? As noted above, you can't put in larger injectors without tuning the PCM.
For the "gutted mass air flow".... do you mean the screen is removed and the dividing wing removed? Again, not a good way to gain performance.... the real "tuners" hate molested MAF sensors, because the calibration curve has been screwed up.
You need to read a lot and look at a lot of threads, before you spend any more money and buy any more parts. Put together a list of PROVEN mods, based on your long term goals, then start working your way through them. The scattergun approach you are using now is just going to be a huge waste of money, with very little in the way of performance gains.

Re: Put 95' hypertech chip in a 96' OH NO!!! HELP!!!
The Mail order tunes from madz28 are programs he used on the computer to tune your ride right? Where do I get a plug to download it off of my computer and onto the cars pcm? I dont want to have to send anything in because then I cant get to work, lol. Link me to a program I can buy on the computer to monitor my engines specs and performance and or make a tune myself. THANKS GUYS- (yes I have ALOT to learn)
Re: Put 95' hypertech chip in a 96' OH NO!!! HELP!!!
Injuneer: To install a chip in a 94/95 you merely locate the PCM: remove the PCM; find some way to get into the PCM and push the chip in through any opening. Then you button it back up; reinstall the pcm; turn on your ignition ; and use your cell phone to call the towing company.
In other words, I am clueless. I just assumed that since the chips were supposedly available for OBD1s that one could install one.

Lol @ Bubba
Hey, at least you've got the kahunas to admit you were wrong
The 93 OBD1 is chippable, the 94 and 95 are not though. Ask me why and I'll give you a similar awnser that you gave. I just know they won't work...lol

Re: Hypertech chip and ROUGH idle at startup!!!
Sell that Piggy back module on Ebay or get your money back.
I've never seen the Comp Cam airfoil until now, and I can see why. Looks to be rather badly designed. If you want an airfoil, get a Hypertech one. Their design is far better than most of the rest out there.

Re: Put 95' hypertech chip in a 96' OH NO!!! HELP!!!
Yup. I just assumed that since Hypertech advertizes the chips for the 95s and claim it merely replaces the stockers and only takes 30 min to plug and play that they were telling the truth.
The programmer was the first thing I bought for my 97SS and it was the first thing I sold to someone on this site when I bought an extra PCM and sent it first to ED and then again to PCMFORLESS for tuning.
Only Dyno runs i've had were with the Hypertech and the only thing it was good for was the 160 stat.
As far as "kahunas": I'd have to say that out of the 3000+ posts that I actually may have been right about 1 or 2 out of the total. I have confidence in the rest of you to point out the wrong ones.
I'm counting this post as 1 of the 2 I had right.

You can replace the PROM in a 94-95. If you have a soldering iron, a steady hand, and a lot of patience. Or you can pay Ion $60 and he'll do it for you.
Re: Put 95' hypertech chip in a 96' OH NO!!! HELP!!!
Well the car is still idling rough when I first start it but doesnt die out like it did with the module on it. I also got a SES light to come on tonight (yah!!!
) so off to Autozone tomorrow to get the code---

Re: Put 95' hypertech chip in a 96' OH NO!!! HELP!!!
explain what you mean by gutted out maf. becuse you could have damaged the tiny sensor in it and that would cause the ses light and the rough startup becuse the car is now trying to run in speed density mode.
Re: Put 95' hypertech chip in a 96' OH NO!!! HELP!!!
Hypertech used to advertise chips for GM vehicles up to 95, but when you look into it they don't include our cars, just trucks and SUVs.
