pushrod and lifter question

Are the stock pushrods and lifters good enough for a CC305, ported heads, and 1.6 roller rockers?

Or, do I need to go with another set?

Any help would be awesome.

Thanks

Joe

Generally speaking, yes.

Pushrods are the weakest link in a pushrod motor, and a set of better pushrods would be cheap insurance, but that's just me

Yes, to the first or second question?

Thanks

Someone correct me if I'm wrong please (as always.)

stock LT1 pushrods were hardened from 1993 -1995, so if you've got a 1996 you might want to check and see if yours are hardened. If they are, I'd leave them alone mine have been fine for 80K+ miles and 360 rwhp no problem.

Hope this helps, money saved is money better spent on other mods,

that's what I am wondering about. I still have a few other things to buy for my head, cam and LT header swap that I am in the middle of. If I can reuse any parts safely then I would rather right now. Pushrods are pretty easy to change later on, unless it is needed now.

I personally think even if you have the factory hardened pushrods that it might not be a bad idea to at least get a new set of hardened pushrods, especially if your car has a lot of miles. If your 96 does not have hardened pushrods, then you'd be cutting corners if you didnt get new ones.

I guess that it may be too much to risk, so I will change them.

What size do I need and where to get them at a good price?

Thanks

Factory rods are 7.2". Combination motorsports (cmotorsports.com) sells a nice set (EX) for around $35 I believe. I've not had an issue with them, and they're high quality

ported heads might need slightly different length. See if u can get a pushrod length checker to determine the optimum length, and then buy the pushrods.

Oh, I just thought about all the responses being about the pushrods. What about the lifters, are they alright to reuse with the CC305 cam?

well, many people reuse them and have no problems. I'd say how many miles is on them may determine how well they'll perform under more load, and against stiffer valvesprings
