Pulling an LT1 from a 96 Z28
Pulling an LT1 from a 96 Z28
Is it easier to pull the engine from the top rather than going out the bottom?
Looks like a real pita going out the bottom.
Calling for any experienced people here who pulled an engine from these things. My car has an auto tranny.
Thanks!!!

I would pull it out the top. Its easier if you take the intake and heads off first. I know the lt1 sits lower on the k member rather then the v6 so you have more clearance on the top of the engine. Taking the intake and heads off may not be necessary but would make is less of a hassle to get out.

Any help or advice i give is my 2 cents and is based on my experience with the F-Bodies. As always seek professional help for certain problems.

Do a search on "engine out bottom" or such. You will get results like this, with detailed instructions for pulling the engine out the bottom (or actually, just raising the body):

Based on seeing it done both ways, I would choose "out the bottom".

I saw this Happy Hooker thing to help with removing the engne from the top, but overall, it looks like going out the bottom will be easier in the long run.
Thanks for the input.
