Pulling heads

All right guys, I'm getting ready to pull the heads off to send them to LE. I was wondering, it's going to be about 3 weeks until i get them back. Moreover, I don't know how long it'll take me to get off my lazy *** and get them back on. My question is, is there anything special i should do since the motor is going to sit with no heads for a month. Should I just put some rags over it and close the hood? Or is there something more in-depth I should do. Thanks guys.

Re: Pulling heads

Don't use any rags that will leave lint in the engine. And cover it with garbage bags if you can.

Re: Pulling heads

I've always thought that saran wrap on the sealing surfaces would work well, maybe put some motor oil on the surface and then put the saran wrap over it. If you are worried about it blowing off (maybe if the car will be parked outside) put some magnets on corners to hold the plastic on.

Re: Pulling heads

is it outside/inside??

Mine was inside when I had my heads off I took a rag (clean) soaked in oil wiped down exposed surfaces and just laid a bunch of rags across as a dust shield and closed the hood.

I wasn't worried about lint.

Before going back in to re assemble I again wiped down and used my shop vacuum to pick up the rest of dirt and any "lint"

I like the magent idea if you are outside

Re: Pulling heads

I appreciate the ideas and advice guys. The plastic wrap seems appealing, and it's going to be stored inside the garage. Thanks.
