Problems with monster tach....

I just finished hooking it up 15 minutes ago. The dial light bulb is out (already knew that before isntalling it) and I am going to get the bulb asap but I don't know if that's whats causing my problems. First of all the shift light stays on constantly. Second of all, when I turn the key 'on' the RPM goes to 0 as it should. Then when I start it, it bounces around for a sec then goes back to zero. Then when I try to set the shift RPM I press the little red button and it goes behind zero and I turn it both ways and it does nothing. What could be the problem here? I know that setting the shift point has nothing to do with calibration, I am hoping that the dial bulb has something to do with it. We'll see, anybody have those same symptoms???

I think you mean the green wire from the tach goes to the white wire on the coil. Yes it's hooked up right... I think it may not be calibrated right? It says something about loops you have to cut in the instructions. I don't know if the previous owner pushed them in or something, all I know is that it came off of a 4 banger toyota. Can I open the gauge without messing anything up to check it out???

If it was on a 4 cylinder, then the wires were cut. Just take it apart and reconnect them. Should be good to go.........unless the needle is whacked out now.

I opened it and the brown wire was cut. I reconnected it and I still have the same problem... Why would my shift light stay on? I don't get this.

Did you accidently hook the green wire to the positive maybe? How mush did you buy this tach for? If you got it pretty cheap, I think you can guess the problem.
