Problems with engine temperature gauge
Problems with engine temperature gauge
My gauge in my 93 Z stopped working. I know that the 93 had two temp sensors; one on the water pump and one on the block. I changed the one on the water pump and the gauge still reads zero so i'm guessing the sensor on the block is the sensor for the gauge. Problem is i don't know if thats the same exact sensor that goes into the water pump of if its different. When you check with autozone, advanced, or pepboys they only show one sensor.
Could someone give me a part number?

Re: Problems with engine temperature gauge
I don't know the number, but I told the guy at Advance I needed the Temperature gauge sending unit and he got the right one.
Also, in my case, it wasn't the sending unit. The wire had gotten burned and the wire was corroded. I cut out the bad part and soldered it back together and taped it up. Worked fine ever since.
Good Luck

Re: Problems with engine temperature gauge
The temp sensor for the computer is on your waterpump, the sensor for the gauge Is on the head not the block, driver side I believe. That's the one u need to change. shbox.com has a picture of where its located
Re: Problems with engine temperature gauge
The two sensors are different. The one in the water pump for the ECM is a 2-wire sensor. The one on the driver's side head for the dash gauge, between plugs for cyls #1 and #3, is a 1-wire sensor. They are not interchangeable.
Re: Problems with engine temperature gauge
This just happened to me as well. I went to autozone today right before work and picked up both sensors, just because im replacing a lot of worn parts. The one on the drivers side head basicly melted and broke in 3 pieces. Went to autozone and found that in their system the Coolant Temperature Sensor on the water pump is P/N SU109, but the one on the head is called (by them) a Temperature Switch P/N TU152. Now they arre nice and shiny. Ill be putting them in tomorrow.
