Problem cranking-starter???
Problem cranking-starter???
I noticed a week maybe 2 ago my 1995 Camaro Z28 started having trouble cranking, instead of it normally cranking when I turn the key, it would turn over a couple of times. kinda like "ruh...ruh...ruh..vroom" At first it would turn over twice now it is turning over 5 times, rather slowly.
I had the battery tested, they said it was defective got a free replacement and it did the same thing. I have had it tested several times since at Autozone and today at Advance. Battery checks out fine, alternator is fine. But there is a drag on the starter. I checks out fine but I don't think so.
The print out today says it has 10.3 volts, 298.2 amps and 1.06 on time...whatever that is. Of course they say they can check it for sure OUT of the car. Like I am going to walk a mile down the road carrying a friggin starter.
Any thoughts on what it could be if it isn't the starter, which I am almost sure it is.
I am thinking about buying one on ebay from protech_supply:

At $57 it sure beats $150 at the parts houses!

Re: Problem cranking-starter???
I would first check the condition of the battery cables and all grounds. I personally thing batt cables are among the most neglected items on a car. Anyway, if a bit of corrosion finds it's way into the cables or is present on the grounds, the resistance goes up and the starter turns slowly....
Re: Problem cranking-starter???
That was a thought. There was a little corrosion at the battery on moth cables but what I thought were acceptable amounts. At the starter the batter cable had the rubber boot mostly broken off but the connection was good. Everything seemed tight. I am going to get underneath it again today and double check.
