Problem with the car...

It started a while ago after i put the ASM headers on the car. First it would only do it right before it would shift into another gear up around the 5krpm range, i think it's the 2-3 gear shift. Sounds like the driver side of the engine would pop/bang hard and the rpm would drop and pick back up, this would happen a few times before it would shift.

Yesterday i hit it hard from a stop and it got up to about 4-5k rpm and it started doing it in first gear. The rpm droped a few times and then i just eased up off the car before i break somethin.

This is really pissen me off cause i can't do any hard runs with the car or else i hear pop/bang and power is shot to hell.

I got auto 95 z28, 8mm taylor wires, ngk plugs, asm headers, cat, slp lm, morosso cai.

anyone got any ideas?

Does the tach jump around a lot at those rpms?

And do you have difficulty making it to redline?

In P or N(stopped or rolling) i can rev the car up to about 6krpm with no problem.

And when the bang/pop starts to happen ya the rpm jumps alot.

I would check the opti crap. The popping could be it miss firing. Did it get wet, coolant spill, or is it old?

It was in the garage for about 3 weeks before i started to drive it again, so i dont' think it was wet. It's got about 11X,XXX miles on it. I dont' see any coolant leakage anywhere out side.

Could it be detonating?
