Problem after fuel pump install...

Okay I will break down the whole story. I finished installing a Racetronix walbro 340 with an access hole over the gas tank. Before I drilled the new plate on I primed the car and started it and took it around the block. It ran fine w/no leaks. Then I reinstall my stereo system and drill the plate on. I crank the car and it's idling weird at around 600 rpm, I hit the gas and it dies. After that it won't start it will just keep cranking. Sometiems if I paly with the gas it will fire a couple times but that's about it, it will never turn over. What could be the problem!!! I'd really like to drive my car....

keep in mind this whole time my battery is dead and was being charged by a jump start.

Any suggestions???

EDIT: The pump primes and it is turning on 100%. Also, there were no leaks when I had the plate off with the car running and the system primed.

and drill the plate on.
You mean you soldered the plate on and now the pump took a dump? I hope you didnt accidentally cut the wires when you were attaching the plate back on.

I crank the car and it's idling weird at around 600 rpm, I hit the gas and it dies.
Sounds like fuel pressure. Give your BAT a full charge then prime your fuel pump and fuel lines with you key in the ignition switch. Just before the crank position, when the dash lines come on and then check your fuel pressure. You should have at least 40psi without cranking the engine at all.

I think your wires got cut off when you put the plate back on. or a blown fuse due to a possible short circuit.

OHH one more thing... you sure you didnt cut any fuel lines when your were Drilling the plate back on??? Check underneath the car for any Leaks man that sounds soo dangerous.

I will check for leaks first thing tomorrow morning but I checked the clearance betfore I screwed it on and it looked ok with plenty to spare. The wiring harness is nowhere near the screws. The screws are only 1/2 inch long so I doubt that's a problem. Even if they did hit a fuel line I'm sure they would just push it down not go through it. It could be an electrical problem (blown fuse/not enough juice). I'll find out tomorrow if it is leaking. Ideally I'd like to get my hands on a fuel pressure gauge to make sure there are no leaks then start eliminating things.

Anything else???

TTT

I installed a used sending unit with this new pump because I messed my stock one up. Do you think it could have collected debris while it was out and clogged my fuel filter? The filter has less than 3k miles on it. I doubt it's the problem but I'm racking my brain. Why would it work then stop?

IMPORTANT UPDATE!!!!

I got the car to run by revving the gas a lot and cranking. Every time I hit the gas it would jump up to about 1000 rpm and then stop and when I stop hittin the gas it dies immediately. Secondly, there was a ****LOAD of smoke coming from the tailpipes and it REEKED of gas... I need to get a fuel pressure gauge hooked up but what are possible problems and solutions??

And why did it work once and not again???

How did you attach the fuel line from the pump itself to the hard line?
I had a similar problem when I did my fuel pump but the hose going from the pump to the hard line on the assembly was coming loose and bleeding pressure.
May or may not be your problem but mine worked fine and a day later it would be hard to start and the fuel pressure would go to 20 on prime and then drop to zero.
I had to go back into the tank 3 times to get the hose on tight enough.

Which line are you talking about? The plastic flex tube type line? I am pretty sure everything is secure but I am going to check the pressure right now. I will post back with readings.

Yeah it would be the plastic flex tube line, I replaced mine with fuel injection hose because I did not reuse the bucket.

Fuel pressure is flawless... I eventually got the car to run. When I would drive the car would drive fine as long as I don't get on it. Once I give it some gas it feels like I hit a wall. So I'm going to change the filter now and see if that does it =)
