Been doing it for 9+ years on my Camaro as well as all my other vehicles and never had a single problem.

Re: powerwash engine bay?

spray away, just don't get crazy with stcking the wand down by the opti. Don't do it when the engine is real hot either let it cool a bit. Once I did it when it was hot and hot out as well, I was in a hurry, sprayed it, then got back in and it ran like crap. It would'nt shift until 6300rpm , Turned out I popped the TPS sensor..... just let it cool, don't go wild, you'll be fine....

If you haven't guessed by now, you're going to get a variety of answers. Do a search and you'll see the same. With the Opti and waterpump out of the car, as long as you plug the holes on the block, I wouldn't hesistate to wash it if it were my car.

So.... we're going to blast the sensitive electronics with 1,500psi? Why risk it? At this stage in the car's life, the harness connector seals are dried out and crumbling. I've seen too much damage to many of these parts from simple maintenance. What's going to happen when you hit them with a high pressure power wash? Are you going to bag the PCM?

Re: powerwash engine bay?

That certainly a valid point, I wouldn't advise "power washing" it, but a low pressure rinse and a mild cleaner works just fine. I soak mine several times a month with engine cleaner, wash the car, and then rinse the engine bay with low pressure final rinse. A little common sense would say not to go crazy blasting grime off, that's what the cleaner is for. My engine bay and all the wiring/electronics look great and are in perfect condition. I've never had an electrical or sensor failure as a result and I only changed the opti because I put a new 383 in. In fact, I still have the old Opti and should tear it apart for conversation sake...

All the more reason to get them wet once in awhile...

Re: powerwash engine bay?

Ive never had any problems spraying mine down with simple green and then taking it to the power wash at the car wash place.

However, with the opti out, that means you have an open to the motor internals and oil = BAD.
