Power steering related to heater core?

I have a 97 Trans Am, and today while I was driving, it felt like I lost power steering and the car immediately overheated. After pulling over, I found most of my coolant had leaked all over the ground. It appeared to be coming from somewhere on driver's side.

I filled the radiator up with water to try to drive it home since I live close by and I didnt see anything leaking after starting her up. I made it about a mile and it overheated again. I was trying to turn on the heat, but there was none.

Has anyone run into this problem or know what it could be? Im hoping its a hose or the heater core.

Thanks in advance.

Ben

Coolant spraying on the accessory belt is probably what caused your power steering loss. The heater core is too far away to have caused that. A pinhole in hose could, though.

OK. I am a novice when it comes to engines. I always assumed that if there was no coolant and it was running hot, there would be excess heat, not the other way around. Is that not correct?

You get your heat from your coolant. No coolant=No heat.
