Pop after rev engine???

I got my car last summer and it sat over the winter. It has a tendency to pop out of the tail pipe after I rev the engine. It has done this ever since I bought it. Is this a LT-1 thing? Or should I take a look at a tune up. It sure doesn't act like it needs a tune-up churping between first and second with an A4/2.73 with a paper filter and 0 modifications .

It's common, some exhausts to it more/less than others. My stock one was annoying, but my current SLP headers/cat-back/Flowmaster doesn't.

Re: Pop after rev engine???

please but your car model and year as well as transmission and rear end specs in yoru sig to help us better answer your questions. It's normal. It's running a little rich from the throttle blade closing and cuasing less air ot be mixed with the fuel. this ignites in your exhaust. you can see fire at night sometimes. You can hear a worst case scenario in my sig. broken spark plug wire and running extremely rich and i still drive it around.

My guess is you have a little exhaust leak that sucks in air on decel.

that is very possible because after I removed the y-pipe to change the plugs, I seemed to notice a slight exhaust tick at around 2000rpm.

Re: Pop after rev engine???

When cold, almost ANY LT1 will pop. Once warmed up, mine doesn't pop at all, and didn't when it was stock either. I've always been able to get it to pop when cold though.

Re: Pop after rev engine???

Mine sounds like gunshots when i rev it and it is cold. When it warms up, i really don't have it. It has something to do with the cats but there are a lot of variables. If i drive in a low gear and get the rpms high, when they drop down, if i give it throttle but continue to let it drop, it will pop and it sounds sweet, Shawn taught me that one

Re: Pop after rev engine???

Mine used to pop a lot on decel after hard driving. Was pig rich. Stopped doing it after I replaced the opti.
