I didnt fall into any of your categories but #4 was closest. I have about 3k miles on mine since installing the hotcam kit and everythings fine. Its mainly a weekend car since I installed it but when I get to drive it it gets driven very hard. About 20 passes at the track since installing it and the motor is running excellent with 60k on it, stock bottom end.
My brother did heads and cam on his 96 Trans Am and then spun every bearing in the motor in under 5K miles.
I think it may have been due to the fact that the motor had over 210K miles on it and was driven hard pretty much all the time. Oh, and I think it didn't like 7K rpms either.

You might want to also ask how many that spun bearings mistakingly used moly lube when they installed a roller cam that doesn't need it.
CC305 has been in for 2000 miles. The bottom end has 95,000 on it now. I shift at 6200 RPM...With an automatic. It holds 60# of oil pressure while running 50 MPH...Idles at 35#/hot...AND...I can assure you that it never gets babied

So by the looks of it well over 50% of the people who swap cams get away without any troubles. Maybe its not the cam doing the damage but all the junk that gets in the motor while its torn apart? Keep em comin

i just used good ole engine oil on cam
Someone just touched on my question - is spinning a bearing mostly due to engine contamination rather than engine modification? I mean it just seems weird that so many people mod their cars, but when it comes down to doing a cam swap, it seems to be instant engine failure?! What gives?
My car is stock bottom end @ 74k...with a TPIS ZZ9 cam in it that has been in since 40k. NO PROBLEMS...
The reason I am even concerned even though my car is in good health, is that I was considering a second cam swap to something a little larger, perhaps a CC305 or something...the TPiS is a tad bit smaller than a HOTCAM. Any input regarding either issue?
