Plugging EGR passages with plugs

I want to plug the holes left by my EGR valve and the tube that leads down to the manifold with pipe plugs. I have plates over them now, but I want to physically plug them because I think it will look better. I know it is the back of the intake, but it is just something I want to do. Does anyone have pics of the EGR ports plugged this way? I know I can plug the one for the pipe this way, but I am unsure about how I would accomplish this with the square hole from the EGR valve.

Drill out the square holes, thread them, then plug them. The two holes are so close together, it might not be possible and could cause the manifold to break.

I hadn't thought about that. I suppose welding the square hole is the other option.

Using polished aluminum plates and replacing the studs with stainless allen-head cap screws will produce a cleaner appearance than pipe plugs.

This is true, but I have several different sizes of plugs fom a dress up kit laying around. I am going to paint them afterwards anyway. I am going to repaint my intake when I remove it and plug these holes. I am actually removing the intake to replace a lifter that has been bleeding down.

I don't see why you feel the need for something more than block-off plates bolted on, but, even cleaner would be to weld the holes shut and grind it flush.

I am starting to consider welding. I read something somewhere that I only actually need to plug the square port. Why is that? Is it the one that actually goes into the intake air?

the egr and the opening for the airtube, could be welded if you know how to weld aluminum

I think your wasting your time however, but thats just me personally theres other ways to enhance the apperence of something then on the back of the intake.

But to each there own i guess i see your reasoning.

Yes, the square port is the side toward the intake. It seems it would not make sense to leave a couple of ugly holes remaining showing if all along your intent was to make it prettier than block-off plates.
This whole idea is a little baffling to me.

A link to a picture of his car, damn nice job on it, looks like you might be able to see the back of the intake if standing at the right angle beside the car, but still think a nice set of stainless blockoffplates etc would be just as nice and lot less work.

I found a nice peice of aluminum at work today. I am going to use it to cover the hole for the valve and I have an allen head pipe plug for the hole from the tube. Thanks for the compliment. Yes you can see the back of my intake from the side. I am looking for some button head bolts for the plate. I have no clue where to buy them around here. Maybe Lowes?
