Exclamation Plug Wires

I have one plug wire(#5) that is broken almost apart. Would I be able to swap an AC Delco wire with that one, while leaving the others as Accel 9000's? Is it bad to use different spark plug wires together? This would only be until my OTVC kit arrives.

Re: Plug Wires

Honestly I reccomend you buy the universale Accell kit and make the plug wire you need using hte boots off the old one... that way you retain that 8mm's you want. If you have the accel I'm thinking of. The kit is 29bucks and you can use it in emergencies... I rebuilt 2 wires so far.. worth it to me... better than shilling out 60bucks for a new kit if a wire burns.

Re: Plug Wires

I had some new AC Delco's on there when my headers were put on. After a week of vacation I get back to my car to find it misfiring, burnt wire. I take it back to the place that did the work and they 'fixed it' with electrical tape and let it sit on the header. Burnt Again! So I decide to get some hi-temp Accel's and have those put on. Worked great for 2-3 days, then misfire! So I'm glad I kept the AC Delco's. Gonna throw on a longer one so I can route it differently.... far away from the damn primary. It's the #5 that is being a pain with the Accel's. With the AC Delco's it was the #7. Gotta go fix this quick and see if I still have any misfire problems.

Thanks for all of your guys' help!

He mentioned buying an OTVC ignition wire kit. Don't these come with universal wires?

I made my own with MSD superconductors and have never had a problem. I believe you can buy a spool of wire, crimp on connectors, boots, etc. but if the wires are installed correctly you shouldn't have a problem again.

Judging by how many people seem to burn wires, maybe that's easier said than done

I wouldn't take my car back to that place! Even with insulation, wires should never be in contact with header primaries! I wouldn't ever recommend tape as a fix either.

I'm sure running the wires over the valve covers will solve your problems, as it has for many others

Re: Plug Wires

I don't plan on going back there for such work... I get free oil changes there, but I'm gonna start doing that myself. The OTVC kit comes with Taylor universal cut-to-fit wires, opti ends, boots, looms, and crimping tool. There will be absolutely no problems with burnt wires anymore

BTW, I finally got those wires replaced about 20 minutes ago. It too me 3 hours.... with intermittent breaks of course. That was a huge PITA. And I just did 2 wires! But I did remove the tensioner, alternator, belt(fell off completely ), Oil Filler, valve cover, and several hoses. I had to push the oil dipstick out of the way as well. That # 6 was soo frustrating! I didn't think it was possible... but finally I just broke the wire off about 3 inches before the boot where it had been burned and it was a lot easier. Oh yeah, I had gotten the #5 replaced in about 30 minutes without removing a damn thing, and then I decided to check the other side... #6 was burned. So, I'm finally done with all of that now. Time to test drive it!
