Re: plug and wire change
Not really, just take your time.
The back ones are a PITA.
I use dielectric grease on the boots and wd-40 on the threads to avoid problems. I've done it twice now (replaced plugs, opti blew so I replaced plugs again b/c of detonation, replaced wires, belt ate wires, did it again) and yeah- definitely make sure you route the wires correctly.
Expect an exhaust manifold casting # on your arm by the time you're done.

Re: plug and wire change
I took off the alternator to make the first passenger side pulg way easer. I found that the driverside plugs came out easy if you do it under the car.
The worst one to get is the one on the passenger side at the back of the engine. I managed to get it from the top, but I had to crawl up on the motor to get my arm at the right angle to get a wrench on it. But if you have big forarms then it might be a pain. All I needed to get them off was a basic socket set.

Re: plug and wire change
Use a dab of antiseeze on the threads when you put in the new plugs. Also, the best tools for the job are a 3/4" gear wrench, and this...

Re: plug and wire change
i love how they show it on a motor outside the engine bay...... different story when inside a car... no? on that... i would only need a box wrench! show me how it works when all you got is 2 inches of work space......
Re: plug and wire change
I made my own and I can change all the plugs on my TA in about an hour. And that includes the time I spend gapping them and removing/reinstalling the intake tube for the blower. Those little tools are really handy and a bargain at $12 bucks.
Re: plug and wire change
Changing out the plugs isn't hard...just remember to go by touch and not by sight. Once you've got that down you can seize the day. I didn't use an assortment of attachments and excess junk... even though I had acesst othem... I just used a simple ratchet & Spark plug socket and removed all 8 of my plugs that way...If need be try a wrench... on spaces your socket can't get into. It's a straight foward thing.
Re: plug and wire change
hey 97ws6..... COME CHANGE MY PLUGS!!!! lol i wish i could do ANY tune up in an hour... maybe on a honda.... even with old cars, cap and rotor, wires, then plugs, or plugs then wires... at least 2 hours, without a lift.... damn, ill pay you to do mine if u can do it in under an hour lol
Re: plug and wire change
Where are you located? Be warned, I charge triple the cost of a shop doing it cause I do it in 1/3 the time.
Seriously though, just those two tools and you shouldn't have too much trouble.

Re: plug and wire change
i got big *** hands and arms.... im 6'6" 320 lbs...... you think its gonna be easy to get under there and do this? believe me.... ive tried.... and its not gonna happen inless i take off both exhaust manifolds....
Re: plug and wire change
you need to take off the alternator, and take off the shroud protecting your steering assembly... its a 45* angled piece of plastic right in the way of the 3rd plug down on the driver side... you will NEED to get that off to get to that plug... the rest are just a matter of endurance.... how long can you keep your hands/arms cramped up in spaces normally not meant to be occupied by human hands...... lol those are some tiny spaces.... you will also need a real good ratchet set... oh... and taking off the tensioner helps with the wire routing as well... and while your at it, replace your tensioner... its 25 bucks and it will save you money down the road.... 2 bolts and its in
Re: plug and wire change
1) Take the Alternator off
2) Remove the starter motor
3) You will need to get under the car.. so save yourself the time and just jack it up or use ramps.
Those are pretty much the main tips...

Re: plug and wire change
i doubt you would need to take out the starter.... i didnt have to... maybe yours is a stick? maybe thats the difference? but i didnt have to just to get to my plugs... just alternator, and the tensioner to get to the passenger side wires easier... and of course the intake assembly has to come off.... air cleaner and MAF and all that... the passenger side plugs should all come out from the top... driver side? all from the bottom...
