PLEASE READ IF YOU'VE INSTALLED HEADERS - especially from above

I cant get my Pacesetters to slip in, EGR tube blocks pass side - where is this thing being held in by? I can't see any bolts - drivers side, gonna disconnect steering linkage, hope that helps. I have removed alternator, dipstick tube, valve covers, all spark plugs - I should be all set, right? Then whats going on, diff angles? Do I want it at the angle it will sit in the car? to left, right? Any tips are appreciated - I HAVE to have this running by tomorrow, and I still think I'm in good shape.

ALSO - COOLANT SENSOR (GAUGE) - should I change that before the headers are in or wait till there in to be sure I dont break it again? How much coolant will spill out? What would you guys do - before headers are in or after? Thanks!

Definitely replace the sensor AFTER the headers are in, or it will very likely break again.

There are 2 bolts on the rear of the intake manifold that hold the EGR tube in.

I installed both of mine from the bottom. Get the car up AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE. I had to use 2 bricks and max out my floor jack to get the passenger side in. Take out the oil filter and starter, and install them both from the bottom. You want the car to sit even while it's up in the air.

Re: PLEASE READ IF YOU'VE INSTALLED HEADERS - especially from above

I put in a set of Jet Hot LT's about a week ago. The way I did it was from below. As far as I know, most all of them have to be put in that way. The way I got them in was to unblot the motor mount and the 3 bolt k-mamber bolts. I jackes up the engine and then had my buddy pry down on the k-member. This gave just enough room to get them in. Do the same on the passenger side and you'll be good to go. As far as the coolant sensor goes, I'd wait tiull I had the headers in. You should still have good access to it and you'll avoid breaking it again if you hit it trying to move the headers. I just replaced mine about 2 hours ago. My engine was a little warm, but not hot and there was quite a bit of coolant that came out. I'd definately say have the new one in your hand and put it in RIGHTas you pull the old one out. Hope this helps!

thanks - had the filter out - wasn't sure starter needed to go -- I think everyone who installs the pacesetters from top had no EGR and didnt get the fittings on the headers - without the AIR fitting it would slip in - THANKS - ill give all a try and keep u updated

I put my set of pacesetters in from the top.. Took some finesse, but it went. If worst comes to worst, you'll have to pull the motor mount bolt..

But both my sets of pacesetter LTs went right in, with some TLC of course..

When I've done longtubes I've always done the passenger from the bottom, and the drivers from the top. With the car up as far as you can get it, and the starter taken out, it shouldn't be too hard to get the header in from the bottom.

I've done Jet-Hots, and Pacesetters from the bottom. The biggest thing I did that helped alot was to loosen the k-member bolts and pry it down.

I installed both sides of my pacesetter's from the top but I had to remove the motor mount bolts and jack the engine up to get them in.

Re: PLEASE READ IF YOU'VE INSTALLED HEADERS - especially from above

If anyone with emissions hookups has installed from the top or even bottom without loosening mounts/k member, thats unbelievable. There is no way....Ive tried all day, nothing. IF you read my other thread, you will see I am having MAJOR troubles with motor mount bolts. This has just been a bad couple days, i hope i can finish this before sunday! I loosened K member, and hopefully that will give me clearance with another person to get it in. without the AIR hookup this would have been done at the start of Weds. That air hookeup hits valve area (covers off) on way in. It really is unbelievable. I cannot believe that this has not been brought up before as a reason to get no emission hookups, i never thought theyd be in the way so much during install. Drivers side was easy as can be, all I did was remove oil filter, valve covers, plugs/wires, steering linkage......ha, ya know, I will NEVER understand how people claim to have done all of this with just valve covers and plugs out....it boggles my mind........if you made it thru my rant, thank you . Thanks for all the responses, goodnight all!
