Cold Air

I just got a cold air system for my car but on and it said to remove that black plasic piece up under the car and go in from the bottom to install, but it never said to reinstall. So should i put it back on or not? If i put it back on my car won't get near as much as, but leaving it off it gets alot dirter and water could get in to it... what do i do?

Re: Cold Air

If It Rains A Lot Where You Live (i Forgot To Check Your Location) And You Get Puddles Large Enough Where You Can Splash Water
In The Intake Cone Direction I Highly Reccomend Not To Remove The
Black Plastic Piece Or Do The Free "ram Air Mod". I Did The Ram Air Mod And I Went Through A Puddle That Was Probably At The Air Dam Height And My Engine Sucked Up The Water And I Hydrolocked My Car. Yes You Will Get More Dirt And Water On Your Cone Which Means A Lot More Maintnance.
If You Dont Mind Removing And Installing The Black Cover Everytime
You Go To The Track Then Do It. You Might Want To See If Your Times Change With And W/out The Black Cover...good Luck...just My .02 Cents

Thanks! Is that ram air mod worth doing or is it a waste of time?

Re: Cold Air

I did it to my car...used a piece of aluminum siding to make a upside down scoop under my intake. You can't see it so it doesn't look retarded....water can't get in there, so being free it's just another small thing you can add on and in the long run maybe it will help.

Re: Cold Air

I put mine back on to try to keep that much more dirt and crud from getting to the filter. It could possibly keep the filter from being hit by debris on the road and should keep away some water.

Re: Cold Air

I cut the whole thing off and I drive very slow near water. I have had no problems.

Re: Cold Air

This may be a stupid question... but how do you clean one of those cone filters? Do you just rinse it with water or is there some sort of cleaner that you are supposed to use???

Re: Cold Air

There is a Recharger Kit and you clean it with the cleaner that comes in teh kit and water, let ir dry, and than oil it with the oil in the kit.. they say a k&n filter will be good for 1,000,000 miles if you keep it cleaned and oiled..

Re: Cold Air

I just cut about a 6x6 inch square out of the black plastic and bolted it back on. I very rarely drive in the rain or when the roads are wet so I don't have any problems with it. Mine didn't come with a recharger kit from LPE though, so I need to buy one sometime.

I did the "Ram air" mod and thought it turned out really well -although there is NO noticeable difference. I just figured more cool air into filter area, and engine bay can't be bad.

Re: Cold Air

I put mine back on...it isn't worth the risk of getting some water sucked up. If you want to, take it off at the track, it's just a few bolts to remove no biggie.
