5 mph trap speed is the real differentiator. Plus I was reminded that he ran a 12.3 not a 12.4. The .17 (1.63 vs. 1.80) difference in 60ft does not equate to 8 tenths in the quarter. As far as racing a stick, what is my screen name??

you can get an lt1 car for 5 thousand. you can easily find a rebuild decently modded car with suspension upgrades and all the quarks worked out of it for 7 thousand and still have money left over for future mods and upgrades you want. i have both an ls1 trans am and an lt1 camaro and i like driving the camaro better. yea the ls1 is faster mod for mod and probably more reliable but the lt1 is not that bad and to me feels faster just hod rodding around town.

but on the same price note you can get a ls1 cheaper than 10k too...

my lt1 with borla catback, nice paint and zr1 wheels cost me 4500
my ls1 all stock cost me 6500

I know it's not a V8 but my 3.8L has 145xxx miles on it and it runs strong as ever. Had a coil pack go out and replaced the water pump but that's all I've had to do with it. Tranny went out when a gasket went out and drained the fluid while I was on an 800 mile trip but I should have checked that stuff more often. Miles don't scare me at all but I also know how to take real good care of my stuff and fix what breaks once I know what's wrong

when i bought my car it was all about money. the LT1 was a better deal and i got exactly what i wanted (black trans am) well almost exactly. i wanted a WS6 with ram air but it was $4k more for a 96 with the same mileage. i got mine from the original owner with 84,9xx for $6k. i added the ram air last spring for ~$1200 though. This friday May 1 I'll have had my T/A for 5 years

I think the LT1 WS6 is one of the best looking 4th gens imo, followed closely by the LS1 WS6 then the LT1 camaro and then the LS1 camaro

i used mostly factory parts to do the conversion with a few exceptions that you'd never notice. that $1200 included the hood ($307.51 from ebay, was a prototype made by the company that made the hoods for GM) the OEM airbox $115, various other things like the grills and maf extension and the blockoff, and $730 at the body shop to repair a very small hole in the hood which was why it ws an oem unpainted prototype (the company that made them ran 25 through and found the issue had to change the mold) as well as repairing some light damage to the corners by the windshield because it was stored standing up. then the hood was painted and installed along with having the headlight doors and roof panel behind the t-tops repainted.

the hood, airbox, MAF to TB bellow and old intake blockoff plate are OEM GM

the only aftermarket parts were the grills ($50 for the pair from hawks 3rd gen parts vs $95 each from GM) the MAF extension cable ($25 from summit, who knows how much from GM) and i used an extension barb and hose clamps from autozone to extend my AIR hose instead of buying a new molded hose from GM. oh and the air filter is a K&N. it came with the box.

here's my engine bay.

and here's the blockoff plate covering the hole where the old airbox sat. you can also kind of see the extension i made for the AIR hose in the upper left corner of the pic

Looking back I wish i didn't buy my LT1. I already have an LS2 GTO and it is a lot of fun too, but at least on my camaro, i have always been breaking ****. I bought the car for 6k and i think i have put well over 10 grand into it. I don't really know and would rather not look. But when i drive it, damn, I love the way LT1's sound. LS2 sounds great also but the LT1 really gets me goin.

If you don't care what response you get then why even bother asking for opinions? Some people like LT1's,some like LS1's. It sounds like you've already decided you want an LS1 so go get one already and stop asking the same question over and over.
