Could you be loosing some timeing at the upper RPM's? ... Sorry I'm not at all familiar with this opti spark bizz!
Is there a way you can crank up your base timeing about 5-10* for diagnostic purposes? It just sounds to me like your experiencing symptoms of a warn distributor.

The optispark is the distributor. No physical adjustments are possible. No loosening the hold down bolt and cranking it to advance timing. Timing is all computer controlled. <font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by TA/30th 1002:

Have you ever had the valve covers off? have you ever adjusted the rockers? Maybe they're a bit tight if you have.
Put some Wynn's engine oil treatment in the oil.
I had a sticky valve problem that was noticable at higher rpms.

When you replaced the coil did you replacce the ignition module too (the black box on the heatstink above the coil)? If not, I would check/replace that.

Brian,
If you get any results from the ignition module, let me know. I read another post where a guy had a similar problem and it turned out to be oil from his K&N on the electrical elements in the MAF? He cleaned it off with some spray cleaner and air dried it. Might be worth checking. Also, I see a lot of folks saying that their similar problem was a faulty EGR valve. I wonder if you just block off the EGR if that might help? I know my EGR is funky, I had to move it, did a relote setup, to fit the engine in my swap car. I might try the EGR block off mod.
I'll keep you posted of any developments.

I'm having problems around 5k, but I don't know if its a miss that I'm experiencing. I get loud popping noises from the exhaust near the cat when it gets up there and don't know if its a miss or a clogged cat since I don't know the symptoms for either one.
