please enlighten me to the ECC canister

What is its purpose, where is it located and how can I tell if it is worn out. I seen Injuneer post about that as a possible cause of running rich, and I would like to verify that it is or isnt my problem

EVAP system

It's purpose is to reduce emissions by collecting vapors from the gas tank and burning them in the engine. The charcoal canister is used to store vapors until the pcm purges them.

The only way I could see it causing a rich condition is if the purge solenoid was open when it was not supposed to be, letting vapors into the intake.

The complaints I have heard most are a gas smell when one of the hoses gets cracked/broken, comes off or installed wrong.

Supposedly you can saturate the canister with fuel and get raw fuel in the system when the purge valve opens.

The only reason I even considered this is when I log a run in Datamaster, I can watch the ECC scroll up to 100% and it wont drop down until I release the throttle. I never paid it any attention, figuring it was just a emissions thing anyway. But now I have a rich condition I have been chasing for awhile, and Freds post rang a bell. Is the ECC suspose to run up to 100% and stay there till the throttle is released?

Thanks for the quick answers guys, I appreicate it.

It purges quite a lot of the time when the engine is warm and the throttle is open.

So it's not worth replacing a saturated cannister, as long as the fumes don't bother you? Just wondering if emissions testing would be affected.
