Which Platinum spark plug?

Yeah I just got through reading about two dozen posts and seeing the phrase "NGK TR55" until I'll probably sleepwalk into the bathroom tonight and write it across the mirror with my wife's lipstick.

But, this is gonna be a PITA so I'd like a little longevity but don't want a crap plug.

Suggestions welcome.

I'm thinking AC Plats.

Thanks for discussing a beat to death topic... with a twist.

Go with the Stock Delcos!! Their platinum and are supposed to last 100K miles. Ive had the NGK Tr55's and the Delcos and I personally like the Delcos better even though they cost $50 for the set vs the $15 for the NGK's.

Don't know about the Delcos. I replaced mine with TR55 VX plats as soon as I did any work on my 97SS. I heard a few times that they really only last about 50,000 before losing their pucks.

The NGK plats are supposed to run longer as well as the NGK iradiums.

I had two sets of the stock AC/Delco plugs lose several of the platinum pucks in about 50,000 total miles. I personally wouldn't use them.

Iridiums seem to be the direction spark plug manufacturers are going. They have the longevity without increasing the resistance due to the need to thicken the plating (platinum). Read this:

Just last weekend I installed a set of AC Delco Platinum Rapidfire #3s.

These DO NOT have a platinum "puck" like the stockers.

Just an FYI....

Re: Which Platinum spark plug?

Thanks for the link OBE. Wow... half the resistance of Platinum. That's great to know. The thing I was worried about with the plats was the resistance. Yeah I probably won't tell a difference but it's just knowing, you know?

Thanks for the comments on the pucks too.

Think I'll go with the NGK Iridiums. Guess I'll gap them to factory specs?
