Red face washing car with dish soap

My friend has a 91 RS and always washes it with dishwashing soap. I told him that it takes off all the wax and his paint is getting sun damaged. But he thinks its still there because the paint still has a nice shine to it. I know better and use the Z-7 car soap, but he thinks its a waste of money, that both are exactly the same. Please someone post on this so i can show him and help him keep his car looking good.

Yeah, dish soap should NOT be used on a regular basis as a car wash. The ONLY time dish soap should be used is to strip all the carnauba wax off your car to begin another system like Zaino. Dish soap has a high alkaline content so it should not be used too often.

Why should I use a car wash soap to wash my car?

Dishwashing detergents are designed to dissolve grease. Since auto waxes [carnauba] are essentially grease, these cleaners will remove a vehicles protective finish. These cleaners will leave behind little shine and no protection. They will also leave streaks in the unprotected paint finish. Always use a liquid car wash designed not to strip any protective finish.

Pre-Wax Prep, read the DAWN part carefully!

At the very least, go buy some off the shelf Meguiar's soap or anything over dish soap, Turtle Wax wash if you have to. There's plenty of over the counter wash products that are much safer than dish soap.

I use Zaino Z7 wash which enhances the look of the polishes, best soap I've ever used to date.
