Smoothing or porting the bowls will not affect compression a bit. Porting/enlarging the chamber will lower compression but polishing the chamber will not lower it by much and the gains from polishing it are much greater than the little lose of compression if any.

yeah, it wont lower it much if any. just dont go further then polishing/smoothing. also, hold a head gasket in place on the head and outline the circle onto the head. you can unshroud the valves while your in there. just be VERY careful of the valve seats. thats the hard part. make sure the gaskets are oriented the proper way too. as in "up" facing the head surface.
