Plastic "puck" ripped off car
Plastic "puck" ripped off car
Today I went to an auto car wash and heard a sharp crack as I entered the bay...the attendant looked under the car and found a square plastic or rubber grooved part that was ripped off. I think it must have been mounted on a lift point (I know this is a lame post but, I'm not a mechanic). Does anyone know what this part is called or the part number? Should the car not be put on a lift until this is replaced? TIA
Re: Plastic "puck" ripped off car
Sounds like the lift pad that belongs directly behind the front wheels, if you look on the other side you should be able to see where it goes. When the car goes on a lift they typically lift from the frame, and even if they tried to use it, the lift operator will most likely notice it isn't there. These are most often used when the car is on the ground, with a floor jack. (I try to never use them). I want to say it should be held in by one bolt right through the center as well
Re: Plastic "puck" ripped off car
That makes sense...I know cars generally get lifted by the frame rails on garage lifts so it's logical that this part would be for hand jacking..Thanks for helping me out
Re: Plastic "puck" ripped off car
The writing is on the plastic pad, but it refers to the rocker panel sheet metal and the plastic fender attachment point next to the pad. The plastic pad works fine with a chassis lift, and with a floor jack. Jut make sure the floor jack has a rubber pad on it, and not the round metal cup with the four corners sticking up.
Re: Plastic "puck" ripped off car
Not to hi-jack the thread, but my car is missing one of these "pucks", are they still available at GM or in the aftermarket? Anyone want to sell a used one? I need the paasenger side if it matters...
