You should add Diamond and Probe to your list.

I don't see the need in paying premium prices for a piston in your build. JE, BME, CP..... all very nice pistons but kinda like buying a billet rod for a 450hp build. Just doesn't make sense.

What's wrong with the KB hypereutectic?

The pistons you have listed are "moderate" weight pistons. Most piston manufacturers will tell you that they are good for 150-200hp nitrous shots. On the other hand, the real lightweights < 400g are pretty much an NA only item.

I don't know what your budget is, but from the choices given I'd go with the TRWs or the SRPs. I've used both and they worked well. I'll give SRP the edge though since they're a bit lighter.

 

Is Federal Mogul and Sealed Power the same company? Just asking, I was under the impression they were. I have Sealed Power forged flatops, but I cant find my d#@% order sheet for my engine parts. It has the part number and cost on it.

What's wrong with the KB hypereutectic?

How can a hypereutectic piston hand this ...The set up should be good for 600-650 Fwhp on the spray and (H) PISTON will work ...

i looked at the Probe and Diamond pistons thx for that info

I ran a set of KB's in a budget drag motor for almost 3 seasons. 353ci, 7800rpm, 100hp plate setup coming through the traps at ~8100rpm. I never had a problem with them other than a little pin bore elongation. Probably made a little more hp than you're planning. You gonna drag the thing every week or give it a nice comfortable street life?

Just hate to see people spend money on things they don't need.

How come you don't hear more about Venolia, Wiseco and Arias? Maybe we should define this a little better in saying... on THIS website?

Believe me, it has nothing to do with them being "bad" pistons. It's just that people repeat what they hear and some of these people run in very small circles. I've found that the 4th gen f-body group is kinda niche in alot of their thinking. Just about everyone's thinking revolves around 2-3 manufacturers for any given product. Whatever their f-body hero runs. No bashing here, just honest observation.

I don't know how many people you know who primarily drag race. The stuff goes from junkyard rebuild to PSI supercharged aluminum big block. On the lower end of that scale you have guys building strong engines and trying to do it on very modest budgets. I've personally run the more expensive class racing and have owned numerous cars over the years. From outrageous big money stuff to the cheap junkyard rebuild with lots of tricks.
Anyways, there are a lot of guys running these lower price drag builds using KB hypereutectics. I can name about 6 or 7 of my good friends who frequent MIR every weekend with their builds. Two in particular are running very consistent NA times in the low 9's.... sbc's here.

I'm not here trying to sell you on anything. You use what you want. I'm merely stating that the KB piston is a viable alternative for your build based on my experiences. The advice is free.

I run the KB's and I am planning on a 100 wet shot next spring and am not the least bit worried about my pistons. I knew a guy who ran two seasons on a 600 hp drag motor with a 200 shot and they help up well. Not to mention, for less than $250 a set.
