For those who has a supercharger
OK guys... I am planning to purchase a supercharger for my 94 firebird. Any good and bad points about supercharger. How much would it cost for the installation? please advice
I keep hearing that putting a supercharger on an LT1 is not a good idea. LT1 can't handle it??? Maybe i should go for a good cam job...

Re: For those who has a supercharger
The LT1 can handle 6 lbs of boost just fine, however, as with any modification that greatly increases horsepower, reliability and driveability may be an issue.
A supercharger will greatly increase the stress levels on the bottom of the engine, which can take it, and also the transmission and rearend, which may or may not take it. You'll either be sitting there blowing clouds of smoke trying to find traction or you'll be looking for a new rearend after a few times launching on some sticky tires. Some people have had luck with the transmission and rearend though, so you might get lucky...
These aren't exactly reasons not to get a supercharger, but things that are almost neccessary along with the supercharger for you to reap the full benefits.
The reason people go with just a cam is because 1) it's a whole lot cheaper, 2) it can offer almost the same peak gains as a supercharger if you're getting a head p&p, and 3) most of the power gains are on the top end, which means you don't have to worry quite as much about parts breaking.
For the price of a supercharger, you can have a nice beefy cam, ported and polished heads, new rims w/ sticky tires, and some other bolt-ons of your choice that would probably make your car a lot more enjoyable than just a supercharger.
I hope I've provided some insight here.

Re: For those who has a supercharger
To be honest I wouldn't put any FI on a car that's not built for it. Meaning get your platform right. 12 or 9 rear and dropped compression....and there we have it... the story of my life.
