These are pictures of my broken crankshaft. After several days of poundering and wondering what broke first my first guess was the bolt broke, because in the second picture you can see the main cap, with two bolts, the one on the right is broken, other half is still stuck inside the block. However, after I took the block in to be machined and all at a local shop, they told me that my crankshaft was basically junk and broke first, then the bolt broke, but not only that, the main cap cracked as well. What even bothers me more is that I was not driving hard when it broke. Im waiting for a call back from the shop to see how much it is going to cost for replacement of things. Looks like best time as any to get a 383 in. Im not holding back on this, anyone have any good advice for good horsepower mods?

Very gory...the main cap cracked, bolt still stuck in block, cyl. 7 and 8 pistons got beat up, #8's rod trashed, and the cam bearings got metal from the crank and chewed out the cam. It is unbelievable if you ask me

My first guess was too many miles, and I swear I was only in 5th gear running 2,350 rpm's when it snapped. The race guys at local machine shop said the crank was junk and thats how it happened. What do you guys think?
