pete jackson gears ??

I just read an ebay auction that said they removed the stock timing set for a set of "Pete Jackson Gears"... Does anyone know anything about these? Is this a gear drive company or do they make a double roller timing set that will fit? anyone?

Pete Jackson makes gear drives. You can run the quiet gear drives for SBC hydraulic roller on the LT1 if you run an electric waterpump (and mess with the CPS sensor on OBDII cars). You are not garaunteed to avoid knock problems and it does take quite a bit of clearancing/machine work to the timing cover. You can get them to work but it is way overkill, most people just go with a good double roller from Cloyes for heavy duty timing sets.

from how i understood it, these are pretty much a waste. i was also told you may loose up to 20 horse with these. don't know how accurate this is, but that is what i was told.

It has been done, with quiet gears. However, it will kick in your knock sensor, and they are a bit hard on the valve train. The timing cover also has to be clearanced for it. The one person who I know of that did it, got rid of it within a few months.

The reasons to run such a thing, besides the 'cool' noise, is lack of timing changes in super hot cars, which we dont have a problem with. Get a double chain and electric pump if you want lax of flexion.

Do a search on "DaveW 396ci", and go to his website. He has all the details of the install, showing the machining of the timing cover. He also has a detailed explanation of why he gave up on it and removed it.
