Opti Spark, "Modified Cam Gear"??
Opti Spark, "Modified Cam Gear"??
I have a 1993 Z28 that I am swapping out the OPTI SPARK to a 1995 vented, thanks for posing about Jason Cromer.
I ordered the kit yesterday afternoon.
Here is my question: As I read over some of the directions about the swap, one thing sticks in my mind. Let me quote it for you (this was taking off the instruction from a link on this board) "To swap the later distributor; a vacuum harness, distributor harness and a timing cover must be used. A camshaft with a longer dowel pin and a hole in the center is required, along with a modified cam gear or 95 or later timing set or the LT4 or LT4 extreme duty timing set."
What is a modified cam gear?
Jason Cromer stated that he did not think it was necessary that the stock one would work.
Thanks,

your timing chain gears are different from those of a 95 or newer!!!!!
thats what we ment to say!!!!!!
you'll need a never timing set (gears and chain).
you can runt the LT4 HD set or a coyles dubble roller, but if you use the coyles you must use a eletric waterpump!!!
hope that helped

Yep, with the old timing chain the splined shaft goes into it, where the 95 Opti must pass through the timing gear, so the hole needs to be larger.
Easier to buy a new one, because that is hardened steel, and drilling would take a good long while.
