Percent loss to the rear wheels?
Percent loss to the rear wheels?
What is the horsepower percentage loss from the motor to the rear wheels?
I heard it was 20 percent, just wondering... also, what about to front wheel drive cars?

Re: Percent loss to the rear wheels?
All depends on what you have done to your tranny. If you have a built auto with all the goodies in it, 20% is not the loss at all. Its much less but im not sure what it is. Someone with experience on this can and some dyno numbers im sure can jump in on this.

Re: Percent loss to the rear wheels?
I already answered this for you on your post on fbody.com, but to repeat it here:
For my Street Twin/stock T56/12-bolt 3.73/17x9.5 wheels, I saw losses ranging from 12.6% at 500flywheel HP to 12.2% at 762flywheel HP. That's based on running the engine on an engine dyno with full intake and exhaust, then checking the rwHP on a chassis dyno with the engine installed in the car. I would use 13% for a T56 on a "stockish" setup.
Same deal, but with a TH400, loose, high stall, non-locking convertor in place of the T56, and losses ranged from 19.5% at 500HP to 21.5% at close to 800HP. Might be clouded a little by different wheels and tires. I suspect a 4L60E with a locking convertor would be in the 15-18% range.
