which pan & oil pump for 383 solid roller

I'm looking at the milodon pan and their High volume pump.
From what I have read on here I don't want real high pressure.
I was going to use the GM pump with the white spring but it won't work with
the Milodon pan.

Thanks

Stock pan, stock pump - blueprinted, tack-welded pickup, white spring. That works fine for my 7,000+RPM, 800HP nitrous setup, and produced good results on a friend's 383/Vortech SC LT1 than eventually made 1,125HP over the course of 5 years, and was pushing 8,000RPM.

The reason I can't use the pump is because Milodon doesn't make a pick up for the GM pump.

Injuneer,

Do you have any idea how much massaging it took to get the stock pan to work?

My main reason for replacing the stock pan is so that I can have almost the entire engine ready to swap in when I pull the old one out and not have to transfer much to the new engine Plus a chance to maybe upgrade.

Thanks

Which Milodon pan, is it the 7qt 8 1/4" deep pan with kickouts if so you may have ground clearance problems.

I'm using the Canton pan and a Moroso blueprinted oil pump. Not too impressed with Canton build quality, although we made it work. If I had it to do over again, I would have used a Moroso or Stefs pan.

The stock pan is ok, but there isn't much for baffling there. If you're looking to road race, I'd definitely look for something better. Drag race and you could do a few mods to make it work better or just buy aftermarket.

Stock pan works with a 383 crank with some minor taps of a hammer... at least it did with mine.

MrZ28,

It's the milodon street strip stroker pan. A local shop used one on a impala SS and thought it was a great pan. I went by and looked at it and it had a lot better clearance for headers. You're not talking about ground clearance are you???

Mindgame,

Do you know which moroso pan that is or the part number?

Thanks

Tcal95Z yes I'm talking ground clearance and unless you have long tubes the stock y-pipe won't clear the kickouts. I say this because I have that same pan on my 383 on the engine stand and I'm contemplating going long tube so I bolted on a set of standard sbc long tubes I have and the sump of the pan hangs about 3/4" below the lowest tube in the headers. My SS has Eibach pro kit springs and I'm not sure that I would have enough ground clearance if I put it in the car this way. The Impys are a different story their headers will clear the Milodon pan and they sit higher than ours.
And God knows I'd hate to buy the long tubes and install everything only to find out no ground clearance.
Do you have this oilpan on your car and if so is your car lowered and do you have adequate ground clearance for an everyday driver? Because if you do then I know it'll work in my car and I can get the long tubes.
Otherwise I'll have to switch to the Canton pan and RKSport 1 3/4" headers which I already have.

Well thats interesting.

I don't have this pan yet. I do have Jet hot long tubes for my new engine.
I also have the eibach pro kit with hal shocks so my car sits pretty low.
My friends Impala had long tubes and he didn't have any trouble with it hitting his headers.

Do you know what the depth measurement is for both pans?
I've got to get a pan asap

Thanks for the info

Yea the Milodon pan is 8.25" from bottom of pan to block and the Canton is 7.5" from bottom of the pan to the block.

TCAL,
Don't know the numbers off hand for the Moroso but with Stefs it's just a matter of giving them a call and telling them what you want.

For those of you running the stock pan.

What modifications did you make to keep the oil at the pickup? I don't see any baffling or trap-doors in the stock pan. Which would seem to indicate based on my understanding of oil-pan modifications for racing, that it wasn't necessarily designed for super hard drag launches and/or road racing.

Re: which pan & oil pump for 383 solid roller

Is it possible to run the stock pump with the canton pan?
I have allready purchased the stock pump with the white spring.
I have the L19 ARP bolts on my rods and I think it will be much easier to get a stroker pan.

Thanks
